Luxury Spa Resort

Perhaps the most indigenous of all Thai luxury brands, Six Senses offers their Hideaway Samui inspired by the regional fishing areas recreated on this undulated headland at the northern tip of Samui Island. A massive property that maintains still-wild and uninterrupted vegetation is located amongst 20 acres of low-lying jungles and beach wildness with panoramas of the Gulf of Siam and outlying island villages.

Visitors arrive to a lodge-like lobby framed by architectural roofline and thoroughly Thai décor accented by head-on views of the Gulf of Siam. While not really a hillside property like many top resorts in the area, buildings are still cantilevered to the give the impression of space and distance. The remote wild feeling of the resort can’t be disputed, like a beach safari experience that is at times a bit worn around the edges given it exposure to sun and elements.

Restaurants are divided by location with Dining on the Rocks and Dining on the Hill offering two very different casual and more formal eating experiences. The spa is the best on Samui, if not for the quirky outfitting than by the staff and procedures, luring the area’s sexiest yogis and body technicians.

The Room

An all-villa hotel is home to just 66 guest rooms contained within freestanding or conjoined bungalows in secluded corners of this hillside location. Entry-level hideaway villas are two story spaces with teak windows and upper level canopy beds facing tranquil views of a lazy gulf and distant beach. Quirky décor and overly oiled teak, which we hate " just let it go natural, look every year their age and then some. Bathrooms are quirky spaces of slatted walls and plunge bathtubs dug out of the bathroom floor surrounded in limestone with nearby lounge area and water views. Larger pool villas come with plunge pool and sun loungers with outdoor dining area that offer great views but compromised privacy whilst outdoors. The Presidential Villa, perhaps the best design space of the entire resort, is well imagined with industrial fixtures juxtaposed teak accents and thatch ceilings that are pleasant even to the astute design eye.
